The development of the Internet has been responsible for the majority of our continuous human advancement. The advancement of technology has allowed us to refine the methods through which we store, transfer, and access information. Beginning in the 1950s, when data first began to be transmitted on a truly global scale, and continuing today with the Internet, each advancement has permitted new discoveries, inventions, and increased production. With the present evolution of the Internet, it is about adding more dimensions in order to enable real-time interactions to take place without any restriction. The transition is taking place in the shape of Virtual Reality, or VR, which has progressed from its early days of research and development – developed by universities and institutions – to becoming a consumer product that is available to everyone who wants to use it.
In the end, it is likely that the future will be a hybrid of virtual reality and augmented reality. And while we may not yet be there, it is nevertheless worthwhile to consider how to negotiate the two realities—and perhaps how to merge them—that we are currently confronted with. Get ready for a crazy voyage into the metaverse, so fasten your seat belts and prepare to be amazed.
